The purpose of this website is to provide students, parents and educators information about what cyberbullying is, how it affects others and what they can do to SPEAC up against cyberbullying. It also provides information about the current research on cyberbullying and resources for additional information.

What is cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen, using the internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones.

What if an adult is involved?

If an adult is involved, it is no longer called cyberbullying. If an adult harasses a child or another adult online it is simply called cyber-harassment or cyber-stalking.

What about those people who try to lure children into meeting offline?

Adults who try to lure children into meeting offline are not cyberbullies either. Usually, that person is a sexual predator looking for their next victim. If someone is trying to lure you or your child into an offline meeting, report them immediately.

Well, I understand what it is now but it's just words. How harmful can it be?

Cyberbullying is not something to be taken lightly. Children have killed each other and even committed suicide after being involved in cyberbullying. Even if it does not end in death or bodily harm, cyberbullies cause thier victims to experience depression, anxiety and a variety of other mental ailments.
